BATU ITAM SERIES
This resort wear motif design is inspired by the historical ship that sank in the waters of Batu Itam in the 9th century AD. The sunken ship is also known as “the Belitung shipwreck or Batu Itam shipwreck.” From its cross-stitched hull construction and cutouts, the ship is thought to have originated from the Middle East. It sailed from China with around 60,000 cargoes of predominantly Changsha ceramics, to anchor somewhere in the Far East, but unfortunately ran aground in the Belitung sea.
BELITUNG SHIPWRECK
Found in Belitung waters, this 9th-century shipwreck was an Arab merchant vessel carrying Chinese ceramics and Middle Eastern artifacts. This discovery is a testament to the ancient maritime trade routes and Belitung's important role in international trade relations since ancient times.
